BOSNIAN ROSES
There are shrapnel sized holes
in the basketball courts
where kids play in the same shoes
they left school with
in the walls of the apartment building my father grew up in
two-hundred square foot floor pan with a view of
grenade launchers
in the cobblestone floor of the city
with plaques commemorating
who was killed
right here
and we filled the holes with red concrete
these are the roses
